God is Love

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:8

God is the source of all love and it is the foundation of his character. God has revealed his love through Jesus who he sent to earth to reveal his heart. The love form God is the highest form of love, agape love which is a sacrificial love. We are created in the image of God which means we were designed to have our hearts centered on God and his love. For God so loved the world, he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

God molds us throughout our lives to make us more Christ-like, to become the person he created us to be. When we accept Christ as our Savior and Lord, we receive the person of the Holy Spirit to live in us forever. The Holy Spirit brings God’s perfect love into our hearts, which is the foundation for molding us to be Christ-like. Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. (Isaiah 64:8) If we obey the Lord’s will he will mold us to be like Christ and we will replace the ways of the sinful world with ways of God. The Lord will fill our hearts with love and we will experience the best life possible here on earth and the perfect eternal life in heaven.

Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Love is the foundation of the Christian life, love changes the desires of our heart, and all the commands from the Lord ride on the foundation of love.

If you want to be closer to the Lord, to understand him more, to hear is voice more through the Holy Spirit, then fill your heart with God’s love. How do we fill our hearts with God’s love? We reflect his love as we minister personally to others. We have to give to receive, to reflect God’s love to receive God’s love. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: (1 John 2:5) Obey his Word is to reflect God’s love, then God’s love is made complete is us. The more we obey the Lord the more love fills our heart.

God is omnipotent, omniscience, and immutable; and he loves us perfectly and is able to care for those in his family perfectly. What an unbelievable blessing to be in the family of a loving God, giving his Spirit to live in us and his Son to guide us through life to our heavenly home. There is no security that comes close to the security we have in Christ.

Today get closer to the Lord and reflect God’s love to everyone. The more we reflect God’s love, the more compassion and care that resides in our hearts. How we reflect love is given by the fruit of the Holy Spirit. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) If you exercise the fruit of the Spirit you will reflect his love.

Prayer: Lord, guide me in the Spirit to reflect your love to everyone. Fill my heart with compassion and mind with your wisdom. Keep Satan away from me through your power as I strive to stay connected to you through the Holy Spirit. Lord, thank you for your desire to guide me through life with your love and wisdom. In Jesus name, Amen
