God is Love

Posted on

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:7-8 ESV

God’s love is perfect because God is perfectly sinless. All throughout the Bible, Christ blesses those who love him and obey his will. How can we not trust the Lord who loves us beyond our imagination, desires to bless us and guide us through life, and bring us to our home in Heaven?  We are created in the image of God which means our hearts are to be filled with God’s love, enabling us to know the Lord and have a close, loving relationship with him.

Love is our connection to the Father and the Son.  We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. (1 John 2:3) Obeying the Lord means the Spirit will guide us to bring God’s Truth and love to the world.  When we do this, God’s love increases in our hearts and we begin to know God personally. We know about God from the Bible but have to obey his will, then our thoughts and emotions identify with Jesus’ thoughts and emotions. We read the Word to fill our minds with knowledge of God and we serve the Lord to fill our hearts with knowing God.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4:10) God loved us so much he sent his Son to die for our sins.  If we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior then we will live in his love and blessings forever. Our Christian life is centered on having a close intimate relationship with Christ. God is love and our relationship is built when our hearts are filled with love. Our relationship is not strictly based on knowledge, it based on when that knowledge is active in our life by serving the Lord.  Then, our hearts change and a close relationship is born.

We serve the Lord and our hearts are filled with love.  We know the Lord and we have a close relationship with him; we are now living life to the full in Christ.  Having a relationship with Christ is the greatest thing we can experience in life. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. (Colossians 3:11) Christ is all, giving us a fulfilling life which means nothing is missing. There is no better life than serving our Lord and having a close, loving relationship.

Today, serve the Lord and pray he fills your hearts with his love. Remember the Christian life is about a relationship with Christ and the relationship is born out of serving the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, guide me in the Spirit to serve you, and fill my heart with your love. Help me to depend on you and seek to be closer to you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
