God Changes Our Heart

Posted on

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7

God looks at our spiritual heart because everything flows from it. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (Proverbs 4:23)   What has God called us to do that will change our hearts?  It’s important to continually obtain knowledge about God from his Word, because his Word is alive and Christ speaks to us through the Spirit. But does this knowledge change our hearts?

There are scriptures about knowing God, living as Jesus lived, putting God first, Jesus being our life, and loving God with all heart, soul, mind and strength. These verses are listed below.

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. (1 John 2:3)

Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. (1 John 2:6)

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33)

When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:4)

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. (Luke 10:27)

These are just a few verses and they all call for action: follow the Spirit, keep his commands, live as Jesus lived, be a light to the world, center our life on Christ, seek to serve the Lord to show our love. Therefore, it is evident that God changes our heart as we live for Christ, following the Spirit, with a heart full of love.

As we get closer to the Lord, we hear his voice through meditation, reading the Word, prayer, sermons, or people because we are always in tune to hear his guidance and he will make it possible for us to hear him. He will place his thought in our hearts to further mold us to be like his Son.

Today ask the Lord to continually change your heart, because we don’t really change until our heart changes.  Then, his commands become our character. Becoming more Christ-like and getting closer to the Lord is the greatest thing we can experience.

Prayer:  Lord, change my heart and help me to follow the Spirit in serving you.  Make me to be more like your Son. Thank you!  In Jesus’ name, Amen
