Glorify God

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

Colossians 1:16

All things were created by and for God; we were created for him and to serve him. We were created to glorify God, and if we give glory to ourselves we become prideful. When we give glory to God in everything, people will see the blessings of God in our lives. We give glory to God and God gives his blessings to us.

Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” (Revelation 14:6-7). We give glory to God because he is sovereign over all the earth and he is our judge regardless of what we may believe. By worshipping the Lord and giving him glory, we in turn receive his blessings and become more Christ-like.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen (Ephesians 3:20-21). His power works through us only if we give him the glory. When people see Christians giving glory to God, they are lifted up as someone who has God’s favor. Joseph gave the Lord glory for everything he did, and the Lord lifted him from slavery to second in command of all Egypt. Everyone recognized that Joseph’s power came from God and it is the same for us. God is glorified when the world sees his power working through his people; but this only happens if we give him the glory.

People of the world are living in Satan’s lies and glorify themselves. They are successful because they use Satan’s lies to motivate more of Satan’s people to follow him. Christians have power over these dark forces in the spiritual world because the light of Christ takes away the darkness. Christians are spiritual warriors and go into battle glorifying the Lord until the end.

Faith is critical for the Christian, because without faith we cannot please God. With faith that pleases God, Christians step out into the world through prayer and through Christ-like behavior.   We are in a spiritual battle, and our jobs are to point souls to Christ for the glory of God. We fight Satan through prayer and by bringing the truth to all people, giving glory to God always.

God’s power is revealed in us only when we give glory to him as he pours his power and blessings into our souls. But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (James 4:6). Don’t be prideful but give God the glory.

Today give God the glory for every blessing. Give thanks in all circumstances and give God the glory in all because he will sustain you through everything. Giving glory to God tells him that we recognize him as the creator of all things, that he is sovereign over all things, that he is our judge, and that he loves us perfectly and wants to bring us home to be with him forever.

Let’s Pray: Lord, please rid me of any hint of pride in my life, and fill my heart with the desire to glorify your name in all things. You are almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, and I am thankful to be your servant. In Jesus name, Amen
