Given these Things as Well

Posted on

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33

Does God take care of our physical needs as well as our spiritual needs? Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. (Matthew 10:28) The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? (Psalm 118:6) These verses tell us that our temporary physical bodies are of little importance when compared to our eternal souls. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Our spirits are of eternal importance and our bodies are important because they are the temple for God, the Holy Spirit.

The importance of the relationship between the soul and body can be seen by looking at the temple in the Old Testament. King Solomon built an elaborate temple for God as described in 1 Kings 6. The temple was important because the people new God was with them. When the temple was dedicated, God filled it with a cloud signifying his presence with the people. Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God. (2 Chronicles 5:14) God longs to comfort his people by letting them now he is always with them.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26) When Christ returned to heaven he sent the Holy Spirit to the believers. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:16-17) When we except Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit of God come to live in us, thereby making us the temple of God.

God will provide for our physical needs, but like the temple built by Solomon, his purpose was to let the people know God was with them. The souls of the people are the primary importance to God, because he knows our flesh comes from the world and cannot enter heaven. Our souls enter heaven with a new, perfect, eternal body designed for heaven.

Pray for your daily needs and know he will provide these needs for those who serve him. He will guide you in making wise decisions to provide for your worldly needs. If we ignore wisdom and seek to fulfill our own worldly desires, then we are own our own, because we are not first seeking his kingdom and righteousness.

Today: Know God is with you and will provide for needs. Your home is heaven and God desires to bring you home to be with him. God sees death as the step into our heavenly home. Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23)

Prayer: Lord thank you for being with me through the Spirit. Draw me closer to the Spirit and so that I may always walk in accordance to your wisdom and your heart of love. Thank you for providing for my daily needs and for your wisdom in making wise choices. In Jesus name, Amen
