Give God the Glory

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31

What happens to us when our hearts desire to live for the glory of God? Over the last few weeks the Lord has put on my heart that I should glorify him. Yesterday, I taught a Bible class at church and the topic opened my heart to see the blessings that come through glorifying God. God is totally self sufficient and needs nothing, but God is love and everything he does is based on his love for us.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16) When our hearts are changed to glorify God, God feeds his blessings back to us with a higher level of peace, security in him, and a joy and satisfaction that transcends understanding. The more we seek to glorify the Lord with our lives through our thoughts, words, and actions, the closer we are to him. This closeness brings a secure confidence, and rest for our souls that only God can provide. Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). In accordance with these verses, our souls will be at rest when we obey and glorify God.

Giving glory to God goes against the way of the world. Satan pushes us to give glory to ourselves and to see ourselves as gods. Satan wants us to believe we will have a better life if we are our own gods. When we walk with the Lord he fills us with the Holy Spirit and molds us to the mind of Christ. We glorify the Lord and receive love, peace, joy, comfort, security, satisfaction, and contentment, all because we trust him and praise him. We give the Lord praise and he fills our souls with his blessings. When we choose to be our own prideful gods, we walk away from the true God. We find ourselves alone struggling in our own worldly wisdom, making worldly choices, and heaven is not our home.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9) If we trust the Lord and live for Christ, we will experience the Lord’s infinite love and power working in our lives. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20).

Today, live in God’s love with peace and joy, as you trust the Lord to guide you through everything in life. God will help you overcome the world as he carries you into final eternal victory. Live today for the Lord’s glory and live with rest and satisfaction in your soul.

Let’s pray: Lord, thank you for being a loving God, who cares for and blesses those who love you and trust you. How can I not love you and trust you, knowing you sent your Son to die on the cross for me? You have filled me with your Spirit and you guide me through life with your blessings, preparing a place for me in heaven. Lord, words aren’t sufficient. All I can do is surrender to your good, pleasing, and perfect will, giving me freedom in Christ. Help me to surrender and to live free in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
