From Mind to Heart

Posted on

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7

The Lord looks at the heart because it reveals everything about us.  We can examine our own hearts by reviewing our thoughts, are they sinful thoughts, worldly thoughts, or Godly thoughts? Our thoughts are important because God knows our every thought.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7) God is molding us to the heart of Jesus, and he does this filling our hearts with his divine love as we tell others about Christ. We can memorize the Bible, but it needs be in our hearts, because we live out of our hearts. The Lord is looking for Christians that are motivated by a heart of love, love for God and love for people.

Love will never be complete in our hearts unless we minister and pray for people. We study the Word because if we don’t know the Word, our hearts will never change, because how can tell others about Christ and answer their questions. The power of our ministry is the Word, and our experience living by the Word. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22)

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. (1 John 4:16-17) Love is made complete when we know the Word and start helping others and telling them about Christ.  Love takes the focus of self and places it on God and others. This is a process that continues throughout out our life as we minister to others. The Lord fills our heart with his love and we reap divine peace and joy.

Since the Lord listens to our hearts and hears every thought we have, then our thoughts must be pleasing to God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) As we change our thoughts to thing above, our mind rewires. Old worldly thoughts are replaced by new Godly thoughts. When we find the things of God are more interesting and fulfilling than things of the world, then our minds are renewed and rewired.

Today seek to obey the Word, because through obedience the Word starts going from the mind to the heart. Follow the Spirit and your heart will change, because God is looking for hearts motivated by love, just as love motivated Jesus.

Prayer:  Lord guide me in the Spirit to obey your Word and open opportunities where I can tell others about Christ. In Jesus name, Amen
