Following the Spirit

Posted on

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

John16:13

The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to guide us, convict us of sin, and warn us if we go in the wrong direction. The Spirit doesn’t speak on his own but Christ speaks to us through the Spirit, by placing thoughts in our minds.  When we are ministering to others, thoughts will come to mind that need to be said, and these thoughts are probably from Christ.

Satan’s plan is to keep us from following the Spirit, by keeping our minds on things of the world. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) Many people are so tuned into the world, it weakens their connection to the Lord. The more we keep our thoughts on things above, the more we are prepared to hear the Lord’s thoughts.

But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law, day and night. (Psalm 1:2) It is important we know the Word because it is the language of God, and how can we recognize the thoughts of Christ if we don’t know the language? Everything from God aligns with the Word.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) To hear the Lord’s thoughts in our minds, we must be still and quiet inside; and spend much of our times praising and thanking the Lord, because that will bring us closer to the Lord. Being still inside and praising and thanking God, the more our thoughts will be on things above.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:16) The Holy Spirit enables to understand the Word of God, such that every chapter speaks to us.  Reading and thinking deeply on the Word is like having a conversation with Christ. And the closer we are to Christ the more we hear the Spirit.

To hear Christ’s thoughts through the Spirit requires a great desire on our part, such that we pray for God’s power to help us hear the Spirit. It takes time to hear Christ’s thoughts in our minds, because we have overcome a life time of Satan keeping our thoughts on things of the world. However, it is important to know what is going in the world and correlate it to the Word. But we can keep our minds on things above by interfacing to the world through the Spirit.

Today be still inside, slow down, seek God’s guidance, and listen to the thoughts that may come into your mind. Never give up, but keep trying and pray for God’s divine help.

Prayer:  Father. help me to hear your thoughts through the Spirit and help me to be still inside. In Jesus name, Amen
