Follow the Spirit

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

John 16:13

The Holy Spirit is critical in our daily walk. The Spirit guides us in God’s truth, interfaces us to Christ, and will guide us based on what is yet to come.  The more we call on the Spirit, the more Christ will guide us. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5) If we live as the Lord’s servants, then we strive to be a Light for Christ at all times.  Apart from Christ, we can do nothing in regard to bearing fruit and bearing fruit in God’s view is the main reason we live.

We remain in Christ by following the Spirit. We call on the Spirit for guidance as we go through our days depending on Christ as we serve Him. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8) The Holy Spirit connects us to Christ so he can guide us through life as His servant, bringing God’s love to the world.  The Holy Spirit gives us power to get through life as ambassadors for Christ. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.  (Ephesians 3:20)

The Spirit knows what is yet to come and Christ will guide us based on the present and the future.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13) The power of Christ works in us when we follow the Spirit. It is important to commune with Christ and call on Him for guidance, wisdom, and strength.  Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8)

The more we desire to walk in the Spirit living in the Lord’s power, then the more we will ask, seek, and knock.  This shows the Lord that we depend on Him to guide us as his servants. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6).  If we don’t depend on the Lord, then what does that say about our faith?

Today, be aware that Christ lives in you through the Holy Spirit. Seek the Spirit’s guidance and see where he leads your thoughts and your heart. Remember to depend on the Lord for his divine guidance.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to follow the Spirit and live for Christ, and to always know the Christ lives in me through the Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen
