Follow Christ

Posted on

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”

Matthew 16:24

The verse above says we are to be disciples of Christ, and he says follow me. From this verse we follow Christ through life as he leads us to Heaven.  There is a difference between doing our will and asking the Lord to be with us, and doing the Lord’ will and asking him to be with us. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say. (John 12:50) This is a model for our relationship with Christ, we ask the Lord for his guidance.

For every choice we make we ask for the Lord’s approval, and we learn to do it out of habit. And as we go through our day, we ask the Lord for his words and for his guidance. If we seek to always follow Christ, Satan want have the power to guide us into sin. The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8) When we seek to follow Christ, he will guide us along the best pathway for our life. God is willing to guide us through life, and what a blessing this is for us.

What is the secret of following Christ? We are connected to Christ through the Spirit, because the Spirit doesn’t speak on his own, but speaks only what he hears. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13) How do we hear Christ through the Spirit? He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) If we can be still inside, we can recognize the thoughts the Lord places in our minds. It takes practice, and we ask the Lord for his guidance and be aware of our thoughts. Christ will place scriptures in our thoughts that relate to our current situation.

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:14) The primary purpose of the Holy Spirit is lead us through life. We depend on the Lord for all things, and we ask for his guidance, and we become aware of our thoughts, and changes is our hearts.

Today seek to be guided by the Holy Spirit and ask for his guidance, and he will bring scriptures to your mind to fit the current situation. The more we know scripture the more we can recognize the thoughts from Christ.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to follow the Spirit and to be still inside in all situations. In Jesus name, Amen
