Fix Your Eyes on Jesus

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:1-2

We keep our eyes on Christ looking into eternity because it keeps us form focusing on the world and the evil that comes from Satan.  Where our thoughts go is where we go, toward the world or toward eternity? Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) The more we control our thoughts and emotions through our faith in Christ, the more we can endure because true power comes from controlling our mind and emotions.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20) The Lord gives us his power to control our thinking, and the more we keep our eyes on Jesus, the more control we obtain. With faith and power from Christ to control our thoughts, we find confidence in Christ in times of difficulty.

Satan tempts us with fear to make us insecure in our faith.  We fight this fear with prayer for God to fill our hearts with his love because his love kills Satan’s fear. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. (1 John 4:18) The more we keep our eyes and our thoughts on Jesus, the more we reflect his love and the less fear we have in our hearts.  We can find reasons to fear, but with our eyes fixed on Jesus it is very difficult to maintain any fear because fear leads us to God’s love.

There is nothing more powerful in our lives than the love the Father and the Son have for us. As he molds us to the mind of Christ, our hearts are filled with his divine love. The power we have from God that is in our hearts is most powerful when we keep our eyes on Jesus. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8) The more we ask, the more we seek the Lord, the more love, peace, and joy we experience.

Today keep your eyes on Jesus and call on him for guidance throughout your day. Minister to everyone today by your actions and your words, and depend on Christ to guide you through the Spirit.  Be sure to pray and ask for his power, wisdom, and love in everything you do.

Prayer:  Lord I will keep my eyes on you as I commune with you today, seeking your divine guidance.  Thank you for giving me the blessing of your guidance through each day of my life.   Help me to be attentive to the Spirit and to follow your will today. In Jesus’ name, Amen
