Favor to the Humble

Posted on

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."

James 4:6

Being humble is the opposite of pride, and we all fight pride because it can be our worldly nature. The problem is sometimes we give ourselves the credit when we should God the credit with a thankful heart. We are created to be humble and we give God the glory which it to our benefit. A Christian is secure in Christ and lives to praise and thank the Lord for everything.

The Pharisees were prideful and Jesus said their hearts were far from God. ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules. (Matthew 15:8-9) Paul was once a prideful Pharisee, and the God put a thorn in his side to keep him humble, and this example reveals the importance of being humble in God’s eyes. Anytime we choose our will over God’s will, can we consider that to be prideful?

Satan tempts us to be prideful to be our own god, and he does this in small steps using our own justification. If we truly know God, we will naturally become humble. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, (Philippians 3:2) We need to be careful to be humble, because Satan will try to get a prideful foothold in our life, without us even knowing.

Today be careful not be prideful, but secure in Christ with a humble serving heart. How can we minister to others with a prideful attitude?

Prayer:  Lord, take away any pride and give me a secure humble heart. Guide me in the Spirit to reveal your love to others with a humble heart.  In Jesus name, Amen
