Every Christian is a Servant

Posted on

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Mark 10:45

Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did. (1 John 2:6) If we live as Jesus did, we are servants of Christ just as Jesus was a servant of the Father.  Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.  For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. (John 5:19)  The Father showed Jesus what he was doing and Christ shows us what he is doing.

If our hearts desire to be the Lord’s servant, we seek what Christ is doing and he will guide us. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. (Psalm 32:8) A servant of the Lord is guided by Christ through the Spirit because he is our Master. Jesus only did what the Father showed him and we do what Christ shows us. Christ will guide our thoughts and place scriptures into our minds and into our hearts — if we are still inside and we depend on the Lord.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) We deny self will and we follow Christ’s will; we do this through prayer asking for the Lord’s guidance. The more we depend on the Lord, the more we will recognize his guidance.  Like in sports if we practice enough, then our muscle memory takes over and it becomes natural. The more we call on the Lord for his divine guidance, the more natural it becomes. That is what the Lord desires for our hearts — to depend on him and to seek him with all of our hearts.

Remember, every day we live to be the Lord’s servants and we fully trust him to be the Master. This is freedom in Christ because it leads to faith without doubt. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)  The only true freedom comes from being the Lord’s servant. This is the greatest position in all creation, serving Christ our Lord. Meditate on this and thank the Lord that you are found worthy to be his servant.

Today, realize that you live as the Lord’s servant guided by his love. You are in control as the Holy Spirit guides you and keeps you on the narrow road to life.  Satan wants you to think Christ will take away your control, but the opposite is true, the only true freedom on the planet is from Christ. Freedom occurs as our minds and hearts conform to the mind and heart of Jesus.  For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. (Romans 8:29) The greatest life possible is being the Lord’s servant. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. (John 12:26)

Prayer:  Lord, help me to always know I am your servant.  Train me to follow your divine will in my thoughts and in my heart, and to always give my best in serving you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
