Ending Your Day

Posted on

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27

How can we end our day and have a peaceful evening before sleep? After our busy day we may be physically and emotionally drained or perhaps angry over some event that happened today, or maybe we are worried about the events for tomorrow. I can remember coming home exhausted and worried about the project that was behind schedule and over budget. How can we forget these troubling things and move into the spiritual kingdom and reap peace and comfort, as we end our day?

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. (Exodus 33:4) This tells us if we seek the Lord he will give us rest. We do this by prayer, reading the Word, and meditating. I have found reading scripture, praying, and meditating about God with praise and thankfulness, causes the world to disappear in my mind. Normally I follow this time with prayer until I fall asleep. It is a great blessing to close our last waking moments with peace and comfort, falling asleep with our mind a soul in the spiritual kingdom.

Set alone time with the Lord this evening, whatever length of time you can spare but try for at least fifteen minutes, and use this time to be with the Lord, just you and the Lord, Pray for peace and comfort as you commune with him. Be sure to praise and thank the Lord. This Lord doesn’t need our praise and thankfulness, but it shows our heart to God and gives us comfort and rest. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)

Don’t get discouraged in your alone time with God if you don’t reap as much peace and comfort you desire. Persist in your alone time with the Lord, and it will increasingly become more rewarding. It took me a few weeks to notice peace, comfort, and security. Through this time the Lord greatly guided me in scripture, increasing my faith and revealed the freedom from being his servant. God will mold us when we seek him in our alone time, asking him to make us more like Christ, and we will find our alone time with him flourishes peace, joy, thankfulness, praise, security, confidence, and wisdom; which is the heart of Christ.

Today, plan to spend the last minutes of your evening with the Lord seeking peace and comfort. Plan what you will do in your alone time with the Lord, for example; choose a scripture to read, pray, meditate on God and his Word. In your mind know this will bring you peace and comfort, as you try and shift your thoughts from the world, to the spiritual, to the eternal.

Prayer: Help me to end my day with peace and comfort from the kingdom and not with worry, anger, or anxiety. Increase my faith that I might trust you to guide me through all of life’s trials and tribulations, with your wisdom, and give me the courage to apply your wisdom. In Jesus name, Amen
