Don’t Live for this Life Only

Posted on

If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

1 Corinthians 15:19

It’s easy to live for this life only with no thought about physical death and our eternal destination. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:14)  This life is short and tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, but when we accept Christ we serve the Lord knowing Heaven is our home, and we live each day to the full.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)  Christian’s live life to the full in Christ and we live secure knowing we have eternal life.  Those who have not accepted Christ are seeking fulfillment from the world, and Satan has satisfied their conscience with his lies about life after their physical death.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28)  Christians are not afraid of physical death because we know our soul lives forever with a new eternal body.  This physical body can never leave the earth.  Christian’s live for eternity with a desire to be with the Lord, but those who live for this life only are missing living life to full and have know eternal life.

Satan tempts us to put all our thoughts on this life and no thoughts on our eternal life.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) If we set our minds on things above we will have the Lord’s endurance to live the last days. But those who cannot see past this life are of all people most to be pitied; however we have the power and love of Christ to tell them this life is temporary and to place their hope in Christ for eternal life.

Christians live for their eternal soul while people that don’t know Christ live for their flesh.  Living for our flesh is placing priority on worldly things, like success, making money, having possessions, and they are all temporary and meaningless in terms of our eternal life. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:4)  When Christ is our life we will appear with him in glory.

Today live for eternity serving the Lord reflecting Christ to everyone.  Living for eternity is doing everything for Christ. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. (Colossians 3:23-24) Doing everything for Christ means reflecting Christ and his love at all times.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to be eternally minded and to realize this life is temporary and tomorrow is not promises. Give me your strength and power to serve you till my last breath and thank you for always being with me. In Jesus name, Amen
