Don’t Entertain Toxic Thoughts
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
Philippians 4:8
We are created in the image of God and we are created to have a mind of love and hope. If we think the way we are designed to think, we will be healthier and have more peace and joy from the Spirit. Satan wants to fill our minds with self-centeredness, fear, anger, unforgiveness, and destroy love and hope. These are toxic thoughts and have a strong, negative effect on our minds, bodies and spirits.
How we think determines our life. If we are surface thinkers it makes it difficult to follow the Spirit, because following the Spirit requires deep thought. A Christian lives thinking inwardly connecting to God, and is also aware of what is going on around them but not always feeding into it. We have the ability to think deeply staying connected to the Lord, and we have the ability to overcome negative thoughts from Satan. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5) If we thinking inwardly in the Spirit, we can capture our thoughts and control our words. Otherwise, we may sometimes feed into our emotions and entertain a negative toxic thought.
All thoughts and emotions are guided or filtered by the Holy Spirit. We do not live by our emotions but by the Word of God. When we live by our emotions, fed to us by our worldly situation, we can easily become a slave to the world. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) How can we be free in Christ if our thoughts and emotions are controlled by the world? The only way we can be free is to have our thoughts and emotions controlled by the Spirit, then we overcome the world and are free in Christ.
Today, stay connected to the Lord and don’t let the world control your thoughts and emotions because you are controlled by Spirit through the power of Christ and you have overcome the world. Remember you are God’s ambassador and you exist in this world to represent Christ.
Prayer: Lord, keep negative toxic thoughts out of my mind, and fill my mind with thoughts of love, hope, and walking in victory through Christ. Give me your power to control by thoughts and to capture all thoughts to the obedience Christ. In Jesus name, Amen
