Don’t Entertain Fear

Posted on

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:7

The Word of God says 365 times that we should not fear. But in this world, we are subjected to many things that bring us fear. Now, we are confronted with a pandemic caused by this virus and it can make us fearful.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10) We keep this verse in my mind because when we read it the power for the Lord lessens our fear and increases our faith. One serious problem with fear is that it can easily weaken our immune system, and that is the last thing we need with this virus.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)  Trusting the Lord and overcoming fear are the keys to enduring all things in this life. Remember all things are possible for God and we are in his family. We know that good parents always try to protect their children. We are not perfect and cannot do all things, but we can trust God because he can do all things and loves us more that we can imagine.

If we focus on our own understanding, then fear will enter into our thoughts.  If we set our minds on the Lord and commune with him during the day, fear can be replaced by God’s love. We read scriptures, pray for God’s help and guidance, and we minster to others seeking to give them God’s comfort. The more we focus on God and others, pray for others and encourage them with scripture, the more love God pours into our hearts. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. (Psalm 14:4)  Trust in the Lord’s divine power to provide love and comfort which can take away fear.

Today, while we are concerned about this virus, we protect ourselves the best we can, and we pray for guidance. We read the Word and pray for strength, endurance, and comfort. Spend more time with the Lord and meditate, seeking him for comfort and strength. The closer we are to the Lord the more comfort and relaxed we feel.

Prayer: Lord, help me overcome all fear as I put my total trust in you.  Fill my heart with your love as I reflect it those living in fear.  Lord I pray for a quick end to this virus and everyone protects themselves and others. In Jesus name, Amen
