Divine Rest and Peace

Posted on

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Matthew 11:28-29

In this fallen world it seems just about everyone is in a rush, especially in driving where it seems very few people have patience. In the four gospels did you ever see Jesus in a rush? Do you think God created us to rush through our days? Life can be so much more relaxing if we slow down inside, and when we seem to do things better, plus at the end of the day we are not exhausted. Rushing through life can have a negative effect on our body, and hamper our guidance by the Spirit.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) How can we be still when we are rushing through our day? We must be still inside to hear the Lord as he puts thoughts in our minds and changes the desire of our hearts. We must be patience when we walk with the Lord, and our soul must be restful as we walk in his divine will.

Our pace in life should coincide with the Lord’s pace in guiding us. Imagine life where you we are always at rest and peaceful, and there was never a need to be in a hurry. This is how the Lord created us to live, it provides a healthier and more enjoyable life. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) Divine rest and peace, guards our hearts and minds.  We live out of our hearts and with divine rest we are much more enabled to hear Christ’s guidance through our thoughts. With rest for our minds, we can better control our thoughts and emotions.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. (Romans 8:6-7) When we are controlled by our emotions, we are a slave to the world and our rest and peace disappears.  But if we have rest and peace for our souls, we have time to control our emotions through the power of God, and we have God’s power to keep the world from taking it away.

Today pray the Lord will enable you walk in peace and rest, and pray the world will not be able to take it away. Then you will walk in the power of God, and handle everything with Godly wisdom.

Prayer:  Lord help me to maintain a spirit of rest and peace as I go through this day, because it can be a power witness to others. In Jesus name
