The Divine Power of the Church

Posted on

I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.

1 Corinthians 1:10

Can you imagine the power of God’s people being unified in Christ? Imagine if all the churches were unified in prayer for their local congregations, for lost souls, and for our leaders. Otherwise how can the church be the light for Christ in this world? Each church is a light to their community through ministry, and a light to the world through prayer.

Christians often have no knowledge of how Satan is attacking their friends, the church, or their country. The power of the church comes from knowing how Satan is attacking so that we can fight his evil with specific knowledge and understanding. God has infinite knowledge but that does not mean that we cease learning how to help others in their particular situations. God gives us his infinite wisdom through the Spirit, but he also gave us a heart of compassion that seeks to understand others.

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity (Colossians 13:4). Every Christian is to promote unity, and unity in prayer is powerful and very effective. Unity in prayer can easily reach anyone in the world because the spiritual world is fully connected by God. So seek unity in the church, especially unity in prayer.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Pray for our leaders so we can live in godliness and holiness. Satan’s goal is to destroy Christianity; in some countries, it is illegal to be a Christian.   The more powerful Satan becomes, the more people believe his lies, especially if they never hear God’s truth.

Christ’s church reflects Christ to the world to fight Satan and win souls for Christ. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19-20). Many churches support missionaries all over the world, and this is good, but every Christian needs to be a missionary for their own city and country.

Today seek to unify the church in prayer and to reflect Christ to everyone. Even in the presence of non-Christians it is essential to show kindness and God’s love. The spiritual war is not against people but it is against Satan and his demons in the spiritual realm.

Prayer: Lord, help your church to be unified to pray for all of God’s people, for our leaders, and for lost souls. Help me realize the power of prayer, especially when the churches are unified in prayer. Guide my heart to pray without ceasing, and to always be connected to you. In Jesus name, Amen
