The Divine Power of Choice

Posted on

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

God has created us with freewill because without freewill love wouldn’t exist. Our free will is exercised by the choices we make and our choices are to be made in accordance to God’s will. However, how many choices do we make according to our wills and according to our emotions?

God has created us with the ability to choose, even over our worldly thoughts and emotions. Our mind is spiritual and our brain is physical, the mind reflects information, desires, habits, and emotions from our brain. A learned behavior can be powerfully wired in our brain as a life-long habit, but our spiritual minds, strengthened by the Holy Spirit and the divine power of God, can still choose. We can choose to overcome the habit with its emotions, and make a Godly choice, or we can choose to exercise the habit. What is our part in developing this divine power of the mind that overcomes our learned behaviors and emotions?

First I want to mention that the power available to us, enabling the mind to make Godly decisions, is limitless. We can increase God’s power in our mind everyday for the rest of our lives, and every day we become less of a slave to the world and we become increasingly free in Christ. We do this by renewing the mind.

We renew the mind which means we change they we think, because our spiritual thoughts program our brain. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2) We renew the mind by reading the Word, praying, fellowshipping with our Christian family, and serving the Lord. A Godly lifestyle is necessary to renew the mind as God molds us to the mind of Christ. Our Godly thoughts reprogram our brains to the ways of God, and a Godly brain supports the Godly thoughts from our spiritual mind. Our minds have the power of God through the Holy Spirit and additional power from the Godly wiring in our brains. As we get closer to the Lord, the mind gains divine power, the brain continuous to wire more for God, God’s love increases in our heart, and we are overcoming the world and its sinful ways. Remember we are not perfect in our flesh, but our heart strives to be perfect, so always give your best effort through prayer to make the Godly choice.

Today, attempt to make every thought, word, and action the result of a Godly choice. Practice controlling your thoughts because it will increase the power of a Godly mind and reprogram the brain. Remember what we think about the most takes the most real-estate in our brain, but we are our own brain surgeons because we can control what the mind programs into our brain by controlling our thoughts.

Prayer: Lord, renew my mind to your ways and keep my thoughts spiritually oriented. I pray for your ever increasing divine power to overcome the sinful nature of this world, and to overcome any sinful habits in my life. I know that all things are possible for you Lord, therefore I trust you to keep molding mold me and giving me the power to overcome, as I strive to walk in obedience to your will, being a light for Christ in this world. In Jesus name, Amen
