Depend on the Lord Through Prayer

Posted on

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Philippians 4:6

The Lord is telling us to come to him “in every situation by prayer,” to give our requests to God with a thankful heart. Why do you think God wants us to call on him in prayer in every situation? You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13). If we live with little thought of God but call on him only when we are in desperate need, what message are we revealing to him?

God is pleased when we truly depend on him and recognize his greatness. If we go through the day not depending on God then we must be depending on ourselves. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:5). If we walk through our days reflecting Christ, then we remain connected to Christ through the Spirit, but if go through our days with little thought of reflecting Christ, then we are disconnecting ourselves from God. The Lord wants Christ-like behavior to be our first priority so that we can tell the good news of the gospel to the world. The longer we do this, the more it becomes our Godly nature. Do you live each day in your Godly nature, your worldly nature, or a mixture of the two?

The goal is to live each day in your Godly nature so it becomes natural; then you will remain connected to God through prayer. The more we serve the Lord, the more we will depend on him; the more we call on him in prayer, the more we will see the Lord in our lives and the closer we will be to him. This is the way we were created to live, connected with God and with Christ at the center of our lives. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him (Psalm 34:8). We were created to be in an active relationship with God, and on this side of eternity we seek to be closer to him by serving him, living in the Word, and through prayer. By experiencing the full life that comes with being one with the Lord, we are driven to know him more through prayer and seeking his divine guidance.

Today invite the Lord into your life through prayer, because he is interested in guiding you through the day. Show your love and dependence on the Lord by seeking him in prayer because it shows your faith in him. Recognize the Lord and his infinite love, power, and wisdom, and imagine walking in his divine guidance.

Let’s Pray: Lord, open my heart to fully depend on you for everything, and help me to serve you to the best of my ability through your power. Thank you for your love and for your desire to guide me through life. In Jesus name, Amen
