Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ

Posted on

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

Romans 6:6-7

If we see ourselves as dead to sin and we live for Christ, then we can have victory over Satan who tempts our sinful nature. We replace our sinful nature with the nature of Christ, and his power in us overcomes any sinful habits and any sinful desires of the flesh. If we have faith, then we can become dead to sin through the power of God.

When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:4) We are dead to sin because Christ is now our life, which implies we live for Christ guided by the Word and by the Spirit. Christ guides us through every situation in life carrying us down the narrow road to our Heavenly home. All we need is the faith to be alive in Christ, letting him guide us through life, and he is always with us.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21) If we are alive in Christ, we will be dead to sin. We cannot be doing good and at the same be doing evil. The best way to overcome Satan’s temptations is be doing something good for the Lord; such as reading the Word, praying, ministering to a friend, or being mindful to always reflect Christ. Through the power and guidance of Christ, we can seek perfection in overcoming sin.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20) Paul was alive in Christ and dead to his sinful nature. Paul had the faith to let Christ guide his life, and through our faith we can have the blessing of letting Christ guide our life. Christ loves us more than we can imagine, he knows us better than we know ourselves, and he wants to guide us through life as light on hill until the day we go home.

Today don’t let sin be your master, but be alive in Christ. Reflect Christ today in everything you do.

Prayer:  Help me to be dead to sin and alive in Christ; to overcome evil by doing good. In Jesus name, Amen
