Created for Heart of Love – Part 1

Posted on

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

The verse above says that without love I am “resounding gong,” “I am nothing,” and “I gain nothing.”  1 John 4:8 states God is Love, Romans 8:29 says we are to conform to the image of His Son.  Every Christian is destined to have a heart filled with God’s unconditional Agape love, which is the highest form of love; a sacrificial love that we receive from God.

How do we get our hearts filled with God’s love? Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) We can have all the Biblical knowledge in our minds, and that is good, but it means nothing if we don’t do what the Word says.  The Holy Spirit brings God’s love to us, but it’s nothing if doesn’t enter our hearts. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.  (Proverbs 4:23)

How do we know, if our love is from our mind or from our heart?  The love we have for our family comes from the heart, which is Eros love, Philo love, and all marriages need Agape love. Agape love is from God, and it frees us from self by putting God and others first.  It is agape love that cares about others, both their physical life and their spiritual life. Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:37-40) If we don’t care about a person’s physical needs, will they listen if we tell them about their spiritual needs? With Hearts filled with God’s love we genuinely care about others.

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” [ you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. (James 2:8-9) If we show favoritism, are we reflecting God’s love? God loves everyone and we are also created to love everyone But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; (Matthew 5:44) We love our enemies, but we hate how Satan has deceived them.

Today pray that the Lord continues to fill your heart with His love. Ask the Spirit to guide you to reflect God’s love to people.

Prayer:  Lord guide me today to reflect your love and caring heart. Keep changing my heart to the heart of Jesus.  In Jesus name, Amen
