Content in All Circumstances

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:11-13

The apostle Paul learned to be content in all circumstances because his soul was close to the Lord. But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. (Philippians 1:22-24)  Paul was comforted, knowing being with Christ in Heaven was his home.  He desired to be with Christ yet remained in the flesh to complete to further the Lord’s kingdom.

Paul was fulfilled when the churches were following Christ. He was fulfilling the plan the Lord had for him and he did it with high motivation. This pleased the Lord and he was filled with love, peace, and joy from the Lord.

Paul’s desire to be with the Lord in eternity, to be close to the Lord in this life, and his motivation to serve the Lord, was pleasing to the Lord to where he was content in all circumstances. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.(Philippians 1:21) Paul lived for Christ and he was looking forward to going home to be with Christ.

If we live our life centered on Christ, with our hearts living for eternity, and always seeking to be closer to our Lord, then we will learn to be content in all circumstances. Glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. (Romans 2:10-11)

Today, pray that the Lord will fill your soul with contentment and joy, as you live for Christ. Always seek to be closer to the Lord by serving him, by praying, and by meditating.  The more we pray and meditate, the more eternal minded we will become.

Prayer:   Lord, help to be content in all circumstances like Paul. It’s only possible through your love that you feed into my heart as I continue to serve you.  In Jesus name, Amen
