Closer to the Lord
The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.
Psalm 145:18
If we are living by the truth, then we can call upon the Lord. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13) Seeking the Lord with all our heart means we don’t have a divided heart and are living by the truth. A divided heart is a heart that seeks God and something that competes with God. The Lord is to be first in our lives above anything or anybody on the planet. If the Lord is first then we are closer to the Lord and have more love to give to the world.
Being close to the Lord can only happen if we put him first. And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind’ “This is the great and foremost commandment. “The second is like it, ‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-39) This is the most important commandment, to love the Lord more that anyone or anything, then we can love our neighbor as ourselves.
There is great advantage to us when we put the Lord first in our life. It means we are close to him and we depend on him, and the more we truly depend on the Lord the closer we are to him. Putting the Lord first gives us his strength and security with a heart of love to reflect to the world. We now have the Lord’s power and strength to overcome the world, to overcome anything in life. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13) This verse is true when we are close to the Lord and put him first.
We put the Lord first as a result of getting closer to him, and getting closer to him requires filling our hearts with his love, because God is love. The more love in our hearts, the closer we are to the Lord and the more we put him first. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (1 John 4:16) From this verse, we can see love enables us to live in God and God in us and we become one with God.
Today seek to fill your heart with God’s love by reflecting his love to others. Put the Lord first and be filled with love, power, and security in him. There’s no greater feeling that being one with the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, help my heart to be filled with your love and draw me closer to you. Let my faith grow stronger and help me to trust you in all things. In Jesus name, Amen
