Closer to Christ

Posted on

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:7

Serving Christ with a heart of Love enables us to understand God because He is love. We begin to learn of his perfect love, his patience, his emotions, and his hatred of Sin. The closer we are to Christ the more fulling our life becomes, and the more we overcome sinful temptations.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) If we want to be closer to Christ, we must deny self of anything that is not pleasing to God, and we follow Christ wherever he leads us. We must put Christ first in our life, and we reflect Christ at all times. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. (John 12:26) We depend on Christ being with us wherever we go and whatever we are doing.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) We must fully trust God in all things, because it shows we know him. We must trust the will of Christ over our will, because he is God and knows us and our life more than we can imagine. The more we trust Christ’s will over our will, and the more we seek to fully serve the Lord, the closer we will be to Christ.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) It is important that we be still inside and commune with the Lord throughout our days, because how can we be close to someone if don’t talk and listen to them? The more we talk to the Lord the more he places thoughts in our minds. But to hear the thoughts from God we must be still inside and quiet inside.

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8) The more we know the Word, meditate on the Word, and memorize scriptures, the closer we are to the Lord because the Word is the language of God.

Today commune with the Lord and ask for his guidance to get through the day doing his divine will.

Prayer:  Lord help be to always do what is necessary to be closer to you. In Jesus name, Amen
