Christ is Our Identity

Posted on

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20

If we can always know that Christ is our identity and that Christ is guiding us, we will reflect Christ to everyone. Notice in the Gospels, the words and actions of Jesus, because we are to conform to the pattern of Jesus. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. (Romans 8:29) Since we have accepted Christ as our lord and Savior, who better to guide us to be like Jesus than Christ?

Think what it would be like if could we always know our identity is in Christ, we would always reflect his love, compassion, patience, wisdom, power, and security. With Christ as our identity, we come to realize we reflect Christ with his love, power, and all the attributes of Jesus. How can we reflect Jesus without taking on his divine attributes that Christ gives us?

Having Christ as our identity and reflecting his attributes, is a great blessing while living on this earth. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27) We are created in the image of God, and he is molded us to live in his image, in our thoughts, words, and actions. And that is why we have the indwelling Holy Spirit and Christ guiding us, so we can live in the image of God. We are created to live according to how God created us, and living as we are created is the best most fulfilling life we can possibly live.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10) Satan is always trying to steal the full life God has for us, by tempting us through our flesh to become our own god. The best life is to have our identity in Christ and to have Christ guide us, but Satan wants to share our identity and guidance between God and self. This is the spiritual war we all encounter; however, we strive to have our identity in Christ and be guided by Christ, and the more we pray for God’s power to make it happen, the more we will reflect the image to Jesus.

Today remember your identity is in Christ and seek to reflect the attributes of Jesus. Have patience and be still inside, because it will make life more relaxing and will help you stay connected to Christ.

Prayer: Lord help me to always know my identity is in Christ and help me to reflect Jesus in everything I do today. In Jesus name, Amen
