Because Christ is Alive, We are Alive

Posted on

Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

John 14:19

What day was Jesus talking about when he said “you are in me and I am in you?”  If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you (John 14:15-17).  This verse tells us the Holy Spirit “lives with you and will be in you,” so the day Jesus is talking about is the day we receive the indwelling Holy Spirit.

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you–they are full of the Spirit and life (John 6:63). When the Holy Spirit indwells the believer he or she becomes spiritually alive; they are in Christ and Christ is in them.  The Spirit changes us to become Christ-like, and this is an ongoing process for the rest of our earthly lives. We are alive, the Spirit changes our hearts to the heart of God, and we now see and understand the world through the eyes of God.

The Spirit fills our souls with love, peace, and joy, giving us a thankful heart which keeps us satisfied and content.  The Spirit continually feeds our souls with the character of God keeping us content, and the closer we are to the Lord, the more our souls and the Spirit become one. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10). The Spirit gives us life to the full, and there is nothing in the physical world that can come close to life to the full in Christ.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). God’s love in our hearts increases as we reflect his love to others, and his love drives out fear. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18).  When a heart is filled with God’s love, the change in a person is amazing as God’s love drives away fear.  Fear can cause impatience, worry, or anger, all of which diminish when our hearts are filled with God’s love.  This makes us more alive in Christ.

Today be alive in Christ as he guides you in the Spirit. Fill your heart with his love and cast out fear, anger, impatience, or any negative emotions from Satan. Choose to walk in love, peace, and joy through the power of the Lord.

Let’s Pray: Lord, fill my soul with life from the Spirit as I live for Christ. Take away any negative temptations from Satan and help me to walk in faith, filled with love, peace, and joy.  Thank you Lord, for always being with me.  In Jesus name, Amen
