Build Your Life on a Solid Foundation

Posted on

Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

1 John 5:11

A life built on a solid foundation, a life that hears and believes God’s Word, reaps eternal life. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it (Matthew 7:13-14). Most people are on the broad road which takes no knowledge or effort; few are on the narrow road because people refuse to search for the truth. It takes time and effort to read the Word, pray, and attend a Christ-centered church. It is much easier to justify our lives as pleasing to the Lord and to blindly travel the broad road to destruction.

How can people live on a solid foundation based on their own justification? Maybe it’s because people are comfortable in their self-justification and avoid any thought about eternal life. They avoid any association with God’s truth because it will go against their own truths. So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32). Through the Word we can know the truth and the truth will set us free because we live on a solid foundation that leads to eternal life.

Those who serve the Lord are free in Christ and have overcome the world. Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4). Overcoming the world means that we trust the Lord as he guides us through life to overcome any mountain we face. Living on the solid foundation and serving the Lord brings freedom in Christ, filling our hearts with the love, peace, and joy that takes away any fears from Satan.

Christians are to minister to people who don’t live by the truth and travel on the broad road to destruction. We are to gently bring the truth to these people in love, otherwise they may get defensive. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ (Ephesians 4:15). God is our judge and his truth remains independent of what we chose to believe.

Today, continue to live on a solid foundation of Christ, living as his servant and reaping his blessings. Put all your faith in the Lord knowing that it is pleasing to him. Live on the solid foundation knowing that nothing in your life exists that the Lord cannot carry you through, because all things are possible for God.

Let’s Pray: Lord, keep me on the solid foundation, walking on the narrow road to eternal life. I will trust you completely and I will live as your servant. Thank you for giving me freedom in Christ. In Jesus name, Amen
