Build Your House on the Rock
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.Psalm 18:2
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. (Matthew 7:24-27)
Jesus has just finished his most famous teaching, the Sermon on the Mount, with a parable about people who build their houses on the sand of Satan or the rock of Jesus Christ. Then he tells his audience, which includes all of us, that everyone can choose to build their lives in one of these two ways. We can make our foundation for our lives on the sand where we basically live for ourselves or we can build it on the rock and turn our lives over to God who created us. It will not matter how great we believe our lives to be, if our foundation is sand they will crumble sometimes in the future. But if they are built on the rock of God they will be able to withstand the storms of life.
When the storms of life are surrounding you, reach out to God in prayer and seek his divine love, guidance, and strength. He will guide you through any storm. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:41) Trust God that he will give you the strength, wisdom, and whatever you need to get through this day.
Prayer: Father in heaven, please help me today to walk in your wisdom and strength and guide me through any storm that might occur today. I know I can have victory in Christ if I walk in your divine will. Guide me to victory today as I seek to obey your divine loving will. In Jesus name, Amen
