Build a Solid Foundation

And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; “Do this and you will live.”

Luke 10:24-28

Jesus said the lawyer answered correctly, and said “Do this and you will live.”  Jesus was saying that if we love the Lord with all heart, soul, strength and mind, we will have eternal life.  Therefore when our hearts are filled with the Lord’s love it changes us to be Christ-like, because God is love (1 John 4:8)

Love is the foundation of the Christian life and it is the fruit of the indwelling Holy Spirit. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23) The main fruit of the Spirit is love and the other fruit is how we show love.

If we desire to be more Christ-like, to be closer to the Lord, then we reflect the Lord’s love to others and he fills heart with more of his love. The more love we exhibit to the world, the closer we are to the Lord. Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (John 25:37-40)  Ministering to others reflecting the Lord’s love and compassion, draws us closer to the Lord with a heart that depends on the Lord.

There is nothing more fulfilling in life than the surpassing knowledge of knowing Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ. (Philippians 3:8)  Paul was filled with the Lord’s love and he was close to the Lord who filled his soul with love, peace, and joy. Nothing on earth can come close to satisfying us the way Christ can satisfy us.  Christ satisfies us by feeding Heaven into our soul while Satan tries to satisfy us by feeding the world into our soul.

Today seek to serve the Lord by reflecting his love and compassion  Ask the Lord to fill your soul with his love.  God’s love is all fulfilling, giving us comfort and security.

Prayer: Lord fill my heart with your love and guide me in the Spirit to reflect your love to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen
