Be Holy

Posted on

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)  Being Holy is to reflect Christ in every situation in life. However, Satan will tempt us by placing ungodly people in our path to incite fear or anger, tempting us to be unholy. Being Holy and standing for Christ takes courage and self-control, which is not always easy to do. Living a holy life for the Lord requires motivation to reflect Christ-like behavior to the world. This can sometimes be a difficult task because our flesh may drive us to conform to the world in certain situations.

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. (Galatians 5:17) Our fleshly desires can keep us from being holy because we are not perfect. We strive to control our fleshly desires and emotions and remain holy, and Satan is tempting us to be unholy and conform to the pattern of the world.

Be Holy Servants of Christ

This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed.(1 Corinthians 4:1) We are called to be servants of Christ and we are entrusted to reveal the mysteries of God. How can we do this without being holy?

If you love me, keep my commands. (John 14:15) It’s God’s love in our hearts that motivates us to serve the Lord.  This, in turn, drives us to be holy.  To serve the Lord we must be Christ-like in every situation, so people see Jesus in us; a loving, compassionate, and caring heart.

And He said to him,” ‘You shall love The Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is the great and foremost commandment. “The second is like it, ‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ The more we love the Lord, the more we will love others, and the less fear we have.  (Matthew 22:37-38)  Satan uses fear to try to cause us to stumble and conform to the world, but God’s love in our hearts triumphs over Satan’s fear and we live victoriously in Christ.

Blessings of Being Holy

You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine. (Leviticus 20:26) We are holy and we do not conform to the pattern of the world, but follow the Spirit.  We live a holy life as the Lord’s servants and we reap the blessings from God. He fills us with spiritual blessings giving us life to the full and freedom in Christ.

Life to the Full

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)  A holy servant for the Lord is the best position on the planet and the Heavenly blessings from above flow into our soul. The Lord promises life to the full, although many unbelievers say they have a great life, but they haven’t experienced life to the fullest from Christ. There is no life on the planet that compares to the fulfilling life the Lord gives us.

Life to the full comes with a heart filled with the Lord’s love, giving us the desire to be holy and reflect his love to others. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)  Being holy as the Lord’s servant is a life filled with joy and pleasures. No one can give us a life more fulfilling than the Lord, and we have eternal life in Heaven with the Father and the Son.

Money, power, and possessions can only temporarily satisfy the flesh and never fulfill the desires of our spiritual soul. Only the Lord can fulfill our soul from Heaven through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you–they are full of the Spirit and life. (John 6:33) How can any non-believer have life to the full since they are spiritually dead?

Free in Christ

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) Christ sets us free and we are guided through life to our Heavenly home.  Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4) A holy servant of God has overcome the world because we interface to the world through the Spirit. We are guided by the Spirit and not by the world, therefore we are free in Christ because Christ has overcome the world.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)  Christ has overcome the world and Christ lives in us through the Spirit, and he enables us to overcome the world through his guidance and power.

Summary

Freedom in Christ, life to the full, and a heart filled with God’s love gives us peace and joy, which can only happen if we are holy.  We cannot be the Lord’s servant if we are not holy.  Our Christian life starts by striving to be holy, to be Christ-like at all times. Be holy and reap the blessings of God and experience the spiritual growth that comes from being holy. There is no better life than being a holy servant of Christ, and our life gets better the longer we are holy and serve the Lord. Life gets better until our last breath, then life is perfect forever in Heaven.
