Blessings of Stewardship
The earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the Lord.
Psalm 24:1
Knowing that everything belongs to the Lord will change us and bring us closer to the Lord. The Lord wants us to know that he created everything, and that everything belongs to him. We are stewards of everything God has given us: our homes, cars, education, jobs, money, and our lives. Realizing that we are temporary stewards gives us more thankful hearts, helps us to use everything for his glory, and helps us to be eternally minded.
Knowing in our hearts that everything we have belongs to God helps us to appreciate things more. Being a steward keeps us spiritually focused because we see this world as temporary. The more we see it this way, the less attached we are to the world and more attached we are to Christ.
Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning (James 1:17). Knowing that everything we have comes from God helps us to be spiritually focused. Knowing everything belongs to the Lord enables us to take better care of things while setting us free.
It is to our advantage if Christ is the center of our lives. How can we do this without being a steward? Can we truly surrender to Christ without being a steward of all our possessions? When we realize everything belongs to God and we are stewards of these things, it will aid us in putting Christ first in our lives.
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth (Colossians 3:1-2). Seek things above and not things of the world because God will provide for your needs. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33). Blessings from the Lord are far more rewarding than things of the world, so continue to serve the Lord and receive his divine blessings.
Today set your mind on being a steward of the things the Lord has given you, and become less attached to this world and more attached to the Lord and eternity. Blessings of the Lord last forever while things of the world are only temporary.
Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to know in my heart that I am a steward of all you have given me. Guide me to be less worldly minded and more spiritually minded. In Jesus name, Amen
