The Blessing of God’s Truth

Posted on

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free

John 8:32

Living by God’s truth sets us free in Christ, but if we put something above God’s truth we will not fully experience the freedom that the Lord has for us. This freedom takes away fear and worry, and fills our hearts with his love, peace, joy, and the security that comes from knowing that Heaven is our home. There is no freedom on earth that comes close to the freedom offered to us by our Lord. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36).

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (1 Corinthians 3:17). The Spirit of the Lord dwells in us, and the more we live by the Spirit, by God’s truth, the more freedom we will experience. This freedom brings spiritual growth and increases faith, all leading to a closer relationship with the Lord. The secret to living life to the full, without fear, worry, or insecurity, is a closer relationship with the Lord in which we depend on him completely.

We have to be on the alert because Satan will try to gain a foothold in our lives that causes us to deviate from the truth. He may use fear, complacency, or our own justification. Satan can encourage us to stretch the truth without our even knowing it. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him (Revelation 12:9).

The Spirit will hold us accountable to the truth, especially if we are motivated to live by truth. We don’t always see ourselves as others see us, and it is always helpful to have close Christian friends to help us from being deceived by Satan and his lies. Satan and his lies can easily deceive us because he appeals to our fleshly desires. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want (Galatians 5:17). Not all fleshly desires are contrary to the Spirit, but it is good to pray if there is any hint that Satan is trying to get a foothold.

Today beware of Satan trying to pull you away from the truth. Stay connected to God, and ask him to guide you in the truth through the Holy Spirit. Pray to seek the freedom that Christ brings, and live everyday with more of God’s truth.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to always live by your truth, putting you first in my life. Convict me by the Spirit when Satan tries to convince me to follow his lies by pulling me away from the truth. In Jesus name, Amen
