Do You Believe God’s Truth or Satan’s Lies?

Posted on

For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 7:13-14

The broad road to eternal destruction is traveled by people who believe Satan’s lies, while the narrow road leading to eternal life is traveled by people who believe the truth. Jesus states this about Satan; When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44). What causes so many to enter through the wide gate?

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear (2 Timothy 4:3). We support our itching ears by associating with people having the same desire, thereby creating a strong force for Satan’s hidden agenda. Satan tempts us through worldly thingsthe lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–comes not from the Father but from the world (1 John 2:16). With support of like-minded worldly people, it becomes rather easy to believe Satan’s lies.

We may honestly think that we are living righteously, but without the indwelling Holy Spirit and maturity in serving the Lord, Satan leads us to justify what we believe is right, especially with support from non-believers. Without wisdom and guidance from God, Satan will lead us down the wrong path until we realize the damage, and then it may be too late. There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death (Proverbs 14:12). This is how believing Satan’s lies get us on the broad road to destruction.

Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me (John 8:45). Seventy-eight times in the Gospels Jesus said, “I tell you the truth.” Jesus said this so many times because he knows that many will believe Satan’s lies based on their own earthly desires. Many people refuse to believe the truth because they don’t know God and they don’t know the freedom that God gives us, making them prime targets for Satan’s lies. They see everyone living in Satan’s lies and that makes it easy to follow the crowd.

Christians are holy, which means they don’t follow the crowd; they follow Christ through the Holy Spirit. Christians see and understand Satan’s lies and his agenda. Satan has one and only one goal: To hurt God by taking souls away from Him. Satan pulls people from Christ by twisting the truth, instilling fear, or tempting them with his lies. If we know the truth, we will clearly see and understand Satan’s lies. If we don’t know the truth, we are likely to believe his lies.

Today seek to live by the truth and to recognize people who are living by Satan’s lies. Pray for those people that you see today, that they may know the truth. Let people see your love, peace, and joy, and tell them it comes by living life according God’s truth.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to see and understand all of Satan’s lies that tempt me today. Let your truth fill my heart so that I can walk on the narrow road to life. Let me reflect your truth to those that are living by Satan’s lies. In Jesus name, Amen
