Be Watchful

Posted on

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Matthew 26:41

If we are to be watchful then we must slow down inside and live every moment with purpose. We are watchful with our thoughts, words, actions, and we are watchful of situations around us. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21) We are watchful in overcoming evil by seeking opportunities to reflect Christ in our words and actions. This requires that we live with the knowledge that we are called by God to reflect Christ to the world. This also requires us to be Holy and not to become molded by the world.

Be still, and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10) If we are still inside, then we are better able to control our thinking. We are not rushed through our days wrapped up in our worldly thoughts. The more patience we have the easier it is to be still and relaxed inside. When we are relaxed with God’s peace in our hearts, we can perform our daily tasks more efficiently and not be as tired at the end of the day. The Lord wants us to live each day trusting him and walking with a peaceful and joyful mind.

If we are to be watchful in overcoming sin and bringing Christ to people then we should be mindful of opportunities while we drive, while we are shopping, and while we are with others. We remember that we are a reflection of Christ at all times, wherever we are.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8) We stay alert by keeping a sober, purposeful mind, seeking to replace tempting, evil thoughts with good ones.   Whenever we see darkness we bring Light. This is being Holy. For it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16) We conform to the will of God instead of to the way of the world. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

When we learn to be still inside, and we take the time to be watchful, we develop patience and our days become much more peaceful and relaxing. We begin living for God’s divine purpose. In this way, we are living for the Lord, guided by the Spirit, and our days are restful for our souls. This occurs when we become watchful throughout our day.

Today, live with purpose. Live with the divine purpose that God has given you. There is no higher purpose in life than the purpose God gives us. We are to reflect Christ through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Today, reflect Christ with your words and actions.

Let’s pray: Lord, guide me today to be watchful. Help me to avoid and overcome temptations, replacing them with good. Let me be a Light for Christ. Keep me from conforming to this world, remaining Holy, walking in your wisdom and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
