Be First be a Humble Servant

Posted on

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

Mark 9:35

Being a servant makes us feel content and pleasing to God.  Our identity is secure in Christ, and our hearts desire is to be a servant of all. Being a servant of Christ our Lord is the best position in the world and the most satisfying. We are rewarded with blessings from Heaven that continuously feeds our souls.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Colossians 3:23-24) If we live this verse doing everything as a servant of Christ, we will have life to the full. With a heart filled with God’s love, we desire to be a servant of all, and we eagerly tell people about salvation in Christ.

Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself. (Philippians 2: 7-8) We are predestined to conform to the image of Jesus, and we live like Jesus, ministering to the world.  God fills our hearts with his love and security, and our heart’s desire to be a humble servant of Christ. Being a humble servant is the most fulfilling life we can have and serving Christ becomes the priority in our life because it brings life to the full. No life in the world compares to the life Christ gives us.

Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. (1 John 2:6) Being a servant of Christ is being like Jesus who was a servant of the Father. Christ will guide us, through the Spirit, to be a witness to the world and a servant of all. Jesus said he was the light of the world, and now, we are the light of the world. We pray for guidance through the Spirit to always be light for Christ.

Today, seek to be a humble servant of Christ, and be a light for Christ.  Reflect the love of Jesus and bring the good news of Christ when and wherever possible. When some listen and accept Christ, it will be most fulfilling.

Prayer:  Lord, guide me through the day as a humble servant of Christ. Open my eyes and ears for opportunities to serve, and tell to people about Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
