Be Close to the Lord

Posted on

The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.

Psalm 145:18

We can be close to the Lord if we call upon him to be with us as we go through our day. There is nothing better in life than being close to the Lord because he feeds our soul with love, peace, joy, and security. As the world becomes more sinful, we need to be closer to the Lord to overcome the world. Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8) If we ask and seek, the Lord to be with us as we go through our day. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. (Ephesians 3:17 NLT) The Lord makes his home in our hearts, therefore if we call him throughout the day to be with us, we will know his presence by the love, comfort, and security we feel.

If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. (John 12:26) We will be close to the Lord if we live to serve him, telling others about Christ. We will feel peace, joy, and comfort after we minister to others. When we bring Christ to people motivated by a heart of love, the Lord is pleased and his pleasure fills our souls. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7) As we witness to others, the Lord fills our heart with his love, and a heart of love brings us closer to the Lord.

Reading the Word, praying, and fellowshipping with other Christians are essential to being close to the Lord. Daily meditation will bring us close to the Lord because, during meditation, the world disappears, and our thoughts are in the Kingdom. Come near to God and he will come near to you. (James 4:8) The more we desire to be close to the Lord, the more we depend on the Lord to guide us through the day, and the more we live to serve the Lord, the closer he will be to us. There is nothing better than knowing the Lord is with us because we feel the comfort of his presence.  The closer we are to the Lord, the less fear from Satan we experience.

Today, seek to be close to the Lord and ask that he will guide you through the day.  Experience the comfort and peace of being close to the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that you will be close to me today as I seek to minister to others. Guide my thoughts, words, and actions so they are pleasing to you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
