Be Aware of the Spirit

Posted on

If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

John 14:15-17

Christians are filled with the indwelling Holy Spirit, but how often are we aware that we are filled with the Spirit? If we always knew we are filled with the Holy Spirit, both in our conscious and subconscious minds, what effect would that have on us?

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13) Awareness of the Spirit keeps us connected to God and keeps our minds viewing the world through the Spirit.

The more we are aware of the Holy Spirit, the more we realize we are in the family of God. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. (Romans 8:16) It’s a blessing to be aware that we are in the family of God and that we are his special possession.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.  (John 14:26)  Awareness of the Spirit connects us to the Lord and primes us to hear his teachings from the Word.  The Spirit brings to our memory scriptures when ministering.

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. (Galatians 5:17-18) The Spiritual war is against our sinful, fleshly desires. If we are aware of the Spirit, we are primed to overcome Satan’s temptations.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17) Awareness of the Spirit gives us peace because our thoughts are connected to Christ and Christ sets us free. Being aware of the Spirit in our hearts will keep our thoughts and hearts connected to Christ. The Spirit will guide us through scripture, remind us we are in God’s family, fill us with peace, and keep us knowing Heaven is our home. It will enable us to interface to the world through the Spirit and even keep our emotions under control. The more we are aware of the Holy Spirit, the closer we are to the Lord.

Today, train yourself to always be aware of the indwelling Holy Spirit just as you aware you are living in the flesh. Let your flesh tell you are a priest, a temple for the Holy Spirit and connected to Christ.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to always be aware that your Spirit lives in me. Enable the Spirit to slow me down so I can be still inside.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
