Am I god?

Posted on

You shall have no other gods before me.

Exodus 20:3

What other gods do we have besides the true God? Is it possible that we could be or own be our own god? What are God thoughts toward us if he sees us being our own god? We will look at scripture and determine the fine line between being our own god, and following the true God.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24). We follow the Lord through the Holy Spirit, putting his will over our will. We walk in step with the Spirit by taking the time to pray and make Godly wise decisions. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25) This verse implies we walk with the Spirit, seeking his guidance in our thoughts, words, and actions.

Following the Spirit we become God’s servants, the highest position in the world. If we are seeking to serve the Lord to the best of our ability, then we are following the Lord, and he takes responsibility for the outcome. When we walk in Godly wisdom, then the outcome is far better as compared to making our own decisions. After we walk with the Lord for some period of time, our will and God’s will become the same, and we learn God’s will is always perfect, therefore we seek to do the will of God.

We have become free by being the Lord’s servant, and giving him control. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1). We are now free in Christ, and we leave the outcome in his hands no matter what happens we remain his servant.

When we are free in Christ we are not playing god, and God becomes active in our life, and he blesses us and takes care of his servant. It is our faith in the Lord that allows us to trust him, to guide our life and put everything in his hands. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6). We show our faith by trusting God to lead our life and to live as his servant.

We become our own God when we neglect to follow the Spirit. We go through our day with little or no praying or communing with the Lord, not seeking his guidance, and not seeking to point people to Christ. We are depending on ourselves instead of depending on the Lord. Now we are trying to share the throne with God, and this is impossible. If we are not serving the Lord and we pray asking for God’s blessings, then are we treating God as our servant? For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10).

Today walk in step with the Spirit by prayer and communing with the Lord. Talk to the Lord as if he were sitting next to you and is willing to guide and help you with is infinite wisdom and power. Remember most of all that his love is perfect, and he has prepared a place for you in heaven. He is willing to lead you through every detail of your life to your eternal home. To walk with the Lord is to walk in his love.

Prayer: Lord, guide me today and instill in me a serving heart. Help me to always be dependent on you, especially when I am ministering to others. Lord I give you control as I seek to walk in step with the Spirit. Help me to listen to the Spirit and handle every situation today with your wisdom and your love. In Jesus name, Amen
