Always be Ready
But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
Matthew 24:43-44
Jesus is telling us to always be ready because we never know when the hour will come. It may be when Jesus returns or it may at our last breath. No one is guaranteed tomorrow even though we tend to take tomorrow for granted. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:14) Life is short and many people keep living day by day with little thought of our eternal life until the end comes.
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8) Every Christian should be alert because we can get comfortable and Satan will get a foothold to pull away from serving the Lord. He doesn’t have to aim at destroying our faith, because all he has to do is to keep us from obeying the Lord by not following the Spirit. Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)
Procrastination has no place in the Christian’s life because it can lead us to a lifestyle that causes us to drift away from serving the Lord. We can get comfortable in our salvation and focus inward toward ourselves, our family, and our church family. But isn’t the church supposed to be a light for Christ in the world? If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. (James 4:17). Procrastination can easily keep us from doing what we know the Lord wants from us, and we may put it off for another day. The problem is that the day never arrives and all of sudden it’s too late and we are not ready.
It can be eternally tragic not be ready, but we seek to be ready at all times so when the end comes, through Christ’s return or our physical death, we can live knowing Heaven is our home because we had remained faithful to the end. But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. (Matthew 14:13) Always be ready by serving to the Lord until the end.
Today serve the Lord faithfully knowing you are always ready because tomorrow is not promised. Live today secure that Heaven is your home and your active serving the Lord reflecting Christ to everyone. Reveal a thankful heart to the Lord for eternal life and the Holy Spirit that guides you home.
Prayer: Help me to always be ready by being highly motivated to serve you and never let me procrastinate but always seek your will. Lord the most pleasing and fulfilling thing I have experienced in this life, is serving you. Thank you Lord! In Jesus name, Amen
