All Biblical Commands Fit Together

Posted on

Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.

Deuteronomy 11:1

It is critical that we obey all commands from the Lord because they all fit together. If we decide not to obey one or more commands, we may fall short in our spiritual life. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, (1 John 5:3) If we obey the Lord sufficiently to fill our hearts with his love, then we have the courage to obey all commands. We can achieve every command in the Word if we strive for it and we seek the Lord’s divine help.

Christians have told me they cannot love their enemy, or they cannot love the Lord more than their family. We will look at these two commands and see their importance.

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44) We pray for our enemies because there is no room in a Christian’s heart for hate because it can kill love. We love people and we hate the lies Satan has them believing. Our love for people increases and our hatred for sin increases. If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters–yes, even their own life–such a person cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26) The word hate is used to compare our love for family and self to the love we have for God. If we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, we have more of God’s love to give our family. If we love God more than anyone or anything, then we will be closer to Him than anyone or anything.  We will depend on Him and we will run to Him when tragedy strikes. We can never truly overcome the world or have the peace and joy unless our love for the Lord is stronger than any love we have in this world. We will never be close to God unless we love him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

These commands may be hard to achieve, but if we understand the need to fulfill these commands, we will ask for Lord’s help in obeying. Every command has a definite need in our life; therefore, seek to obey every command in the Bible and every command from Christ through the Spirit. If our desire is to obey a command and we ask the Lord for his guidance, we will achieve the command and we will notice the purpose of this command. If we refuse to obey any of the Lord’s commands, it will hinder our closeness to the Lord.

Today seek to obey every command and seek the Lord’s help.  Pray that you obey these commands in a manner that is pleasing to God.

Prayer: Lord, guide me and help to obey every command in your Word. I need your help to obey all commands to be pleasing to you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
