A Godly Attitude

Posted on

In your relationships with one another, have the same attitude as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:5-8

If we are to have the same attitude as Jesus, then we need to be humble, obedient servants. What does scripture say about these characteristics and how are they implemented in our lives? What does it take to become a humble and obedient servant of our Lord? Does being a humble, obedient servant give us life to the full? The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10).

But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant (Luke 22:26). If we are the Lord’s servants then it is our responsibility to obey the master and pray for whatever the Spirit puts on our hearts. The master takes the responsibility of answering the servant’s prayers. We place our faith in the Lord to answer our prayers according to his divine and perfect will. We are now free in Christ. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1).

We cannot be a humble servant of the Lord if we are not obedient to his good, pleasing, and perfect will. Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did (1 John 2:6). If we are filled with the Holy Spirit then the spirit of Christ lives within us, therefore our lives model the life of Jesus. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, (Colossians 3:23). When we do everything for Christ, ministering and reflecting Christ to everyone and guided by the Holy Spirit, then we are obedient. Christ in now the center of our lives as we fulfill our divine purpose for living. For many, Christ is only part of their life because they sometimes follow the Spirit’s guidance but often follow their own guidance.

When our spiritual hearts change, making us dependent on the Lord and thankful for Christ for saving us through the cross, we are humble in the Lord’s sight. Humility occurs as our love for the Lord increases, and we become secure in our God given identities. If the Lord sees us as humble, obedient servants, then we are blessed and are pleasing to our Lord.

Today, do your best to obey the Lord by being sensitive to the Spirit, and see yourself as the Lord’s servant. There is no position in all creation that is more fulfilling and rewarding than being the Lord’s servant. Choose to live life with joy as you serve the Lord.

Let’s Pray: Lord, I pray my attitude is the same as Jesus. An attitude of love and compassion brings your love and truth to the world. Lord, help me to hear the Spirit’s guidance pointing me to lost souls who have hearts to listen. In Jesus’ name, Amen
